Since in this age of Kali-yuga people have short lifespans and are always disturbed and anxious, Lord Caitanya Mah\u0101prabhu, by His causeless mercy, has given us the elevator by which we can come immediately to the platform of bhakti-yoga. That direct means is the chanting of Hare K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a, and that is the special gift of Lord Caitanya Mah\u0101prabhu. Therefore R\u016bpa Gosv\u0101m\u012b offers respects to Lord Caitanya Mah\u0101prabhu, namo mah\u0101-vad\u0101ny\u0101ya k\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a-prema-prad\u0101ya te: \u201cOh, You are the most munificent incarnation because You are directly giving love of K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a. To attain pure love of K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a, one has to pass through so many stages of yoga, but You are giving this love directly. Therefore You are the most munificent.\u201d\n\nAs stated in the eighteenth chapter of the Bhagavad-g\u012bt\u0101 (18.55),\n\nbhakty\u0101 m\u0101m abhij\u0101n\u0101ti\ny\u0101v\u0101n ya\u015b c\u0101smi tattvata\u1e25\ntato m\u0101\u1e41 tattvato j\xf1\u0101tv\u0101\nvi\u015bate tad-anantaram\n\u201cOne can understand Me as I am, as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, only by devotional service. And when one is in full consciousness of Me by such devotion, he can enter into the kingdom of God.\u201d In the other yoga systems, there must be a mixture of bhakti, but bhakti-yoga is unadulterated devotion. It is service without a motive. Generally people pray with some motive in mind, but we should pray only for further engagement in devotional service. Lord Caitanya Mah\u0101prabhu has taught us that when we pray we should not pray for anything material. In the beginning, we cited Lord Caitanya Mah\u0101prabhu\u2019s perfect prayer:\n\nna dhana\u1e41 na jana\u1e41 na sundar\u012b\u1e41\nkavit\u0101\u1e41 v\u0101 jagad-\u012b\u015ba k\u0101maye\nmama janmani janman\u012b\u015bvare\nbhavat\u0101d bhaktir ahaituk\u012b tvayi\n\u201cO Almighty Lord, I have no desire to accumulate wealth, nor to enjoy beautiful women. Nor do I want any number of followers. What I want only is the causeless mercy of Your devotional service in my life, birth after birth.\u201d In this verse, Caitanya Mah\u0101prabhu addresses the Supreme Lord as Jagad\u012b\u015ba. Jagat means \u201cuniverse,\u201d and \u012b\u015ba means \u201ccontroller.\u201d The Supreme Lord is the controller of the universe, and this can be understood by anyone; therefore Caitanya Mah\u0101prabhu addresses the Supreme Lord as Jagad\u012b\u015ba instead of K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a or R\u0101ma. In the material world we find many controllers, so it is logical that there is a controller of the entire universe. Caitanya Mah\u0101prabhu does not pray for wealth, followers, or beautiful women, because these are material requests. Usually, people want to be very great leaders within this material world. Someone tries to become a very rich man like Ford or Rockefeller, or someone else tries to become president or some great leader that many thousands of people will follow. These are all material demands: \u201cGive me money. Give me followers. Give me a nice wife.\u201d Lord Caitanya Mah\u0101prabhu refuses to make such materialistic requests. He frankly says, \u201cI don\u2019t want any of these things.\u201d He even says, mama janmani janman\u012b\u015bvare. That is, He\u2019s not even asking for liberation. Just as the materialists have their demands, the yogis demand liberation. But Caitanya Mah\u0101prabhu does not want anything of this nature. Then why is He a devotee? Why is He worshiping K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a? \u201cI simply want to engage in Your service birth after birth.\u201d He does not even pray for an end to birth, old age, disease, and death.
