Born in Athens, Greece, and educated in Germany, Phedon moved to New York in 1983, working as a photojournalist, and eventually crossing over into cinematography.
\nPhedon now counts over 40 feature films to his credit as Director of Photography. Some of his earlier work includes Dance of the Damned, Cool Runnings, and Phenomenon.
\nHis more recent credits include Walk the Line,\xa0The Weather Man, The Pursuit of Happyness, 3:10 to Yuma, and Oliver Stone's W.
\nPhedon has shot several films for Alexander Payne, including Sideways, The Descendants, and most recently Nebraska, about an aging father travelling from Montana to Nebraska with his estranged son in order to claim a million-dollar Sweepstakes Marketing prize.
\nNebraska along with The Descendants and\xa0Sideways\xa0were nominated and won several\xa0Oscars and\xa0Phedon\xa0was nomimated for an Oscar for Nebraska for Best Cinematography.
\nMost recently, Phedon shot The Monuments Men, directed by and starring George Clooney, about a World War II platoon that rescues art stolen by the Nazis.
