Tonight, we\u2019ll read excerpts from the \u201cLadies\u2019 Book of Etiquette and Manual of Politeness,\u201d written in 1860 by Florence Hartley. The excerpts will include \u201cConduct in the Street\u201d and \u201cPolite Deportment and Good Habits.\u201d\n\nThe opening excerpt regarding conduct in the street refers to omnibuses. These were large horse-drawn carriages used for public transportation in the late 1800s.\n\nHartley was a Victorian-era writer covering topics of etiquette and needlework.
