Michael Kirby was the first openly gay man to be appointed the High Court of Australia, and Australia's longest serving High Court judge when he retired. He and his husband Johan have been together for over 50 years and together have weathered having to keep their love hidden, the tragedy of the HIV/AIDS crisis, and the fight for marriage equality in Australia.
