Flying into the Future

Blended wing, transonic truss-braced wing, double bubble wing - these are some of the concepts being developed for the next generation of commercial aircraft.  Inspired by funding from NASA,  a competition launched by the agency this past June is seeking US companies to design and build a full-scale demonstrator.  The prototype must by airworthy by 2027 and be about the size of a Boeing 737 that can carry 150 passengers.
