Pink-tinged crystallisation ponds at Lake Grassmere produce up to 70,000 tonnes of salt from sea water each year - about half of New Zealand's salt needs. Salt was first produced at the lake in the 1940s. Archival audio: Taste New Zealand (videorecording). Auckland: Television New Zealand, 1993.
