Auckland's 'coat-hanger' bridge

The idea of a bridge across Auckland's Waitematā Harbour was first mooted in the 1860s - but almost a century passed before the Auckland Harbour Bridge opened in 1959. The city's distinctive 'coat hanger' bridge was expanded in the late 1960s, with two extra lanes clipped onto each side.
