Malta has two official languages - Maltese and English. They inevitably mingle, producing a unique variety of English and a one-of-a-kind Semitic language with numerous words borrowed from English and other European languages. Linguists believe that language mixes enrich communication, drawing the most appropriate resources from each language for each situation. Does this impede the development of contemporary Maltese vocabulary? Does the language mix leave anyone behind?
