172. Bustin Myths: My Porn Use Doesnt Hurt Anybody

Published: Aug. 16, 2023, noon

Welcome to episode #172! This week, Matt and Braden share the first week of a three-week series on busting myths regarding porn. The first myth: "My porn use doesn't hurt anybody".

It impacts you.

You matter more than you realize. Your porn use hurts you and others. The myth: It doesn’t hurt anybody. You might feel lonely, that it doesn’t matter or make a difference. The myth will devalue you and we use it to rationalize our behaviour. However, even when it might not feel like it impacts anyone else, it impacts you. It hurts you. And you matter.

It impacts your marriage.

Your spouse is your closest neighbour. It’s going to affect them as it affects you. It will erode your intimacy and it will erode your ability to be present in your marriage. A lot of times, your spouse will know something is going on. And even if they don’t, you are hurting them by not being fully present in your marriage. Freedom from porn allows you to have no secrets in your marriage and brings a level of full intimacy in your marriage.

It impacts your children.

If you're tied up in shame and guilt, you won’t be able to connect well with your kids. It’s hard to talk to your kids about things that you are currently struggling with. This leads to the kids struggling with it worse. Kids will pick up when their parents aren’t present or when they choose other things over them.
