Welcome to episode #170! This week, Matt and Braden talk with Brant Hansen talk with Brant Hansen about anger, forgiveness and living unoffendable.
Whatever you do with anger, you can do better without it.
When you struggle with addiction there's, typically, a component of being hurt, angry, lonely or tired. When you’re healthy, you’re less likely to fall into stuff you don’t want to be involved in. There is a higher risk of falling into bad habits and addiction when you have unresolved anger. Our anger feeds into our addictions, but also our addictions feed into our anger.
Only God’s anger is righteous
We are taught as Christians that righteous anger is okay. We feel entitled to be angry. God can be trusted with righteous anger because he is sinless. If we believe we have the right to be righteously angry, we will be angry for the rest of our lives. There is always something to be angry about and it will affect our lives in a negative way. We need to not let the sun go down on our anger. This doesn’t mean to suppress it, but to work on it and through it.
We need to forgive because we don’t deserve the forgiveness we’ve been given.
It can be hard to forgive, but it is even harder to live a life without forgiveness. We’ve been forgiven, how can we stay angry with all God has done for us? How do we turn around and be angry at others and ourselves when we have been given this gift of forgiveness? We need to be the ones who are quick to forgive and allow God to work through us by letting go of anger in our lives. Forgiveness benefits everybody - believer or not. It’s the healthy way to live - you can’t be grateful and angry at the same time. As you practice gratitude and forgiveness, you will get angry less.
