Hey there Punky Peeps,

Happy November or should I say Happy Turkey Month?

I’m your host Angela Bowen and welcome to another episode of Punky Power An Unofficial Punky Brewster Podcast.

Today I’ll be discussing another serious episode of Punky Brewster. S2E16 Cherie Lifesaver which aired on January 19, 1986 Henry reluctantly buys a new refrigerator and puts the old one in the backyard. Mike teaches CPR to the children in class. Allen goofs off and is sent to the principal's office. When the children are playing Hide and Seek, Cherie hides in the fridge and suffocates. Allen doesn't know what to do, so it's up to Punky and Margaux to save their friend's life. This episode was actually the winning entry of a story writing contest.

Time For My Brandon Tail Wag Episode Rating.

I’m giving this episode 5 out of 5 Brandon Tail Wags.

I loved this episode so much it was so informative.

1. I liked the idea that this episode’s storyline came from a child’s imagination.

2. Mike did an amazing job explaining to the kids the seriousness of CPR that it was a game and if not careful you can end up hurting someone while performing it. They way he guided Punky and Margaux through the procedure.

3. Henry telling the kids not to go near the old refrigerator while unbeknownst to him Cherie was already inside.

4. Allen’s lack of knowledge of CPR having getting kicked out of class lead him to feel guilty, but Henry tells him that even he didn’t know the procedure and suggests they go learn it together.

5. Seeing Punky and Margaux work together to save Cherie’s life. There was no squabbling or arguing of who would do what, they wasted no time jumping in there.

I hope Mike had the girls reverse roles so they both knew how to do the other part of the procedure.

Punky’s Principles:

This episode was one that people will remember and have for over 30 years, the episode where Cherie gets stuck in the fridge. They always mention how scary it is. I wish I could have learned how to perform CPR at their age or at least when I was a teenager. I was 13 or 14 watching my nephews that were under the age of 4. I never had an emergency issue, but it would have been nice to be certified just in case. It’s a shame that they don’t make shows like this anymore. I remember watching Rescue 911 and seeing the Heimlich maneuver done. It was two boys that had been in third grade and one boy had choked on a jolly rancher and being they had learned the Heimlich procedure in class the boy took immediate action because of course the teacher had left the room.
It had so many teachable moments. Just like this show. Just in this season alone.

I want to give a sincere thank to all you listeners out there whether you listen to this podcast on Itunes or Soundcloud or any other listening platforms that you may use to hear this podcast.
