Q&A: Loud Noises

Published: Jan. 17, 2018, 8:30 a.m.

Your baby’s ears start developing very early on and by about week 18, they should be able to hear. This sense will continue to improve as their hearing sharpens throughout their time in your belly. It is often said that loud noises can startle a baby in the womb, although things like your dog barking will get them used to those sounds before they even get to meet your pet in person. This episode explores the risks of loud noises by looking at studies on how babies hear in utero, and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
