Parallel Mothers (Spanish: Madres paralelas) is a 2021 Spanish drama film written and directed by Pedro Almod\xf3var. The film stars Pen\xe9lope Cruz and Milena Smit and features Aitana S\xe1nchez-Gij\xf3n, Israel Elejalde, Julieta Serrano and Rossy de Palma.
\nIt had its premiere as the opening film of the 78th Venice International Film Festival on 1 September 2021 where Pen\xe9lope Cruz was awarded the Volpi Cup for Best Actress. It was theatrically released in Spain on 8 October 2021 by Sony Pictures Releasing International. It was also scheduled to be the closing film of the 2021 New York Film Festival on the same day
