Can you go to jail for dropping money? Hey everybody, Welcome to Peace News Now, your daily journal of peaceful resistance! I’m DerrickJ. Today’s Wednesday, December 4th 2013. 1 ounce of silver is 20 dollars. 1 Bitcoin is 1,099 dollars. This episode is brought to you by friends of http://WeUseCoins.com . You’ve probably been hearing a lot about bitcoin in the news. If you’d like to learn more about how you can use this new currency, I recommend you visit http://WeUseCoins.com . It’s the perfect launching pad to get started. That’s http://WeUseCoins.com
A man was charged with a crime this week for letting $1,000 in cash fall from the top floor of the Mall of America. He said that after a bad divorce that left him with very little, even the loss of his pet cat, he just wanted to spread some holiday cheer. The police arrested the man and he is now facing charges of disorderly conduct, a crime which includes jail time.
In other news, a man in Tennessee has proven that a deadly firearm can be created only with items purchased from retail stores in airport terminals.
Evan Booth, a computer programmer, created the gun using items like a hairdryer, lithium batteries, and body spray. The gun successfully fired pocket change through sheet rock. Booth said he decided to embark on this project after the TSA introduced body scanners, which he believes violate travelers’ privacy.
Booth made several other deadly weapons, including a crossbow, blowgun, and spiked club, all made using common items purchased in airport stores. No amount of airport security will prevent bad people from doing bad things.
Speaking of bad people, Harry Reid, one of Obamacare's architects and staunchest supporters in congress, is now exempting some of his staff from having to buy insurance through the law's new exchanges. Reid’s spokesperson said, quote, "We are just following the law." Which is true, the people who wrote the law for everybody else also wrote themselves the power to be exempt. I'm sure you non-politician Americans who just lost your insurance will feel comforted to know that Reid's staff gets to keep their government plan...that you pay for.
Speaking of people you pay for, a cop in Florida was caught pleasuring himself sexually in front of a woman at a gas station, and was allowed to resign without facing criminal charges, so he'll likely become a cop somewhere else. Anybody else would have been charged, convicted, and forced to register as a sex offender for life. But cops are different. They can do crimes and that’s okay, because you’re not going to do anything about it.
The Tony Award winning Broadway musical Kinky Boots was featured during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade — and then promptly bashed by stuffy prudes who called the show inappropriate for featuring men singing and dancing in women’s clothing. In response, the show’s producer and lead actors headed right to Macy’s in full costume to go shopping! They shared photos from the Black Friday outing on Twitter. Winning!
In other peaceful resistance news, activists are working to turn off the water to the NSA's billion-dollar Data Collection Center in Utah, and at other facilities around the country. The spy agency’s achilles heel is its dependence on local utilities. Using a state’s right to nullification, activists are asking lawmakers to propose legislation that will end the relationship between the NSA and state resources. For example, you know how the NSA’s supercomputers are collecting data about everything you do online? They rely on more than a million gallons of water per day to cool those supercomputers down. Without it, they’d melt. Do you want to make that happen peacefully and lawfully by cutting off their supply? Learn more today at http://OffNow.org
