In this episode of Old Spook Lane Creepy Chats, Arun and Patricia concludes Tim Burton Month with looking back at the 2005 stop motion animated film Corpse Bride. Based on a Jewish folktale named The Finger, Corpse Bride takes place in a Victorian town in England where a young man named Victor, the son of fishmongers, is arranged to being married to the daughter of an aristocratic family named Victoria. After completely forgetting his wedding vows during rehearsal, Victor runs into the woods and places the wedding ring on a branch while practicing his vows. But it turns out that the "branch" is a finger belonging to a corpse of a woman named Emily who was killed before her wedding day from her lover. Now Victor is married to a dead woman and tries his best to get away from the world of the dead to return to the world of the living and Victoria before the sun rises and she would end up marrying a lord.
\nCorpse Bride made $118 million dollars on a $40 million dollar budget receiving positive reviews from critics for its animation, spooky atmosphere, music, and story. However, in recent years, it has been seen as "mediocre" from animation fans saying it isn't as good as The Nightmare Before Christmas or Coraline when it comes to spooky stop motion animated films. This is Patricia's first time watching it, while Arun has seen it several times. What did they think of the film? Listen and find out.
