Ship sailed across two miles of sandy beach, rescued itself
Stranded four-masted schooner North Bend crossed Peacock Spit and, a little over a year later, launched itself in Baker Bay on the other side in the late 1920s. If you've ever visited the Ripley's Believe it or Not in Newport, you may recognize this story ...
