As a teenager, she\u2019d been committed to the Maine Industrial School for Girls: a reform school that aimed to turn rebellious, troubled, and misfit girls into promising young women.\xa0\nWhen she left the school, Anita was far from reformed. If anything, she was more determined than ever to live her life on her own terms. In December of 1967, Anita packed up and went to California in search of adventure.\xa0\nBut a few months later, her family suddenly stopped hearing from her, and nobody could get in touch.
