"Life is like the surf, so give yourself away like the sea." \xa0We watched Y tu mam\xe1 tambi\xe9n (2001) with our friend Sandra Espinoza and we're packing the station wagon for a roadtrip to Boca del Cielo. \xa0Time is a hell of a concept and man did it do a number on us when we re-watched this classic of Mexican cinema. \xa0As young lads first introduced to this film, we were struck by the beauty of its cast, its locations and its story, but as aged queens of the 2020's we've really changed who we identify with. \xa0Of course as teens coming to grips with our queerness we sided with the beautiful Julio (Gael Garc\xeda Bernal) and Tenoch (Diego Luna) and their spontaneous beach trip. \xa0Now that we're grown - it's fully team Luisa (Maribel Verd\xfa) who feels like she's babysitting without getting paid. \xa0Masterfully directed by Alfonso Cuar\xf3n and shot by Emmanuel "Chivo"\xa0Lubezki - it captures the beauty of Mexico in a way not often seen in American movies. \xa0No yellow filter to be found - just 2 boys, a girl, a lot of tequila and colorful translations of Mexican slang. No mames guey!
