On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are making quick friends with some underwater alien creatures. We watched the James Cameron film from 1989, The Abyss.

I just mentioned the aliens, but would you be surprised to discover that those things aren\u2019t featured in much of the film? Probably only about twenty-ish minutes of this over two-hour-long thing.

Maybe you wouldn\u2019t be surprised if you\u2019ve seen this one before, but I sure was amazed to find this out. The aliens, especially the water snake thing, are all over its marketing. One could rightly expect their presence to be greater.

Much like several other films by Cameron, The Abyss focuses on two main themes: surviving under extraordinary circumstances and how terrible the military can be. These ideas are explored in depth (no pun intended).

What we\u2019re given is a thrilling story about a crew of oil rig workers fighting to survive after being trapped underwater. A hurricane rages above them and a nuclear weapon threatens them below. It\u2019s a classic film that deserves its accolades.
