Carl Walters of Laurel landed his first newspaper job in the\n1920s working as a printer\u2019s assistant. In this episode, he recalls\nhow his love of sports led him to become a sports writer. Later,\nWalters began working for the Meridian Star. He discusses how the\nMeridian paper broke new ground by being the first to segregate the\nsports news into its own section. Walters became the first sports\neditor for the Jackson Daily News in 1946.\xa0
