"This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him." John 2:11 Miracles are one way Jesus manifests His Glory. These manifestations also inspire disciples to believe. They have an intended purpose to satisfy the hungry, but they are not for the purpose of flamboyance or to gratify the curious. Miracles can be worked only in an atmosphere of hunger, expectation, humility, and obedience as our expression of faith. (Just as Mary told the servants at the wedding, "Whatever Jesus tells you to do, just do it!") This message outlines several accounts of Jesus working miracles, and how Jesus provoked people to express their faith in a specific way. When He does this in our lives, it's always to draw us to a higher level of expectation, and not limiting our expectation of what we can see or handle with our natural mind. Through simple obedience to the unction within, or instruction through a minister of the gospel, we are able to release our supernatural faith and cooperate in the working of miracles. The carnal mind, self centered, and religious never express genuine hunger or expectation; their pride robs them of the opportunity to work miracles. This is why Jesus often rebuked them for their hard heartedness, and even shut them out of the room when He performed miracles. The working of miracles is a gift of the Holy Spirit and is freely available to any believer. It only requires is a humble heart, obedience to faith, and a confidence that Jesus is able and willing to do exceeding and abundantly above all we ask or think.
