Mediatwits #133: Ye Olde Email Newsletter Makes a Comeback

Published: Oct. 9, 2014, 8:59 p.m.

In an era of instant updates and constant streams of information, the email newsletter is making a comeback. Traditional media outlets such as the New York Times and Washington Post have created unique email offerings for their subscribers to appeal to niche interests. And writers such as Rusty Foster, Maria Popova, Alexis Madrigal and Ann Friedman with personal brands have created a following by pouring their perspective into email. The Times’ own David Carr even proclaimed the revival of the email newsletter, and on this week's Mediatwits podcast we'll discuss the staying power of email newsletters with the Washington Post's David Beard and the New York Times' Carolyn Ryan. Plus we'll be joined by Alex Leo from Newsweek and Andrew Lih from American University, with PBS MediaShift's Mark Glaser hosting and Fannie Cohen producing. The Mediatwits podcast is hosted and sponsored by NextSpace and NextKids Potrero Hill in San Francisco, offering coworking space and adjacent day-care for infants and toddlers.
