Luke 1:26-38 \nThe second week of Advent sees us lighting the candle of Peace. We turn to Luke\u2019s account of Gabriel\u2019s announcement to Mary in a seemingly ironic twist. God\u2019s \u201cfavor\u201d here was a very difficult nine months for a poor yet-unwed pregnant girl. \u201cPeace\u201d is not the first word to come to mind. But God\u2019s favor is not the promise of an easy road. Mary would be the first of countless others whose lives would be greatly complicated by Jesus. The peace comes, however, knowing that God walks beside those God favors. Christ\u2019s birth is the sign that the world is worth saving in God\u2019s eyes.
