Co-organiser of the event, Val Curtis from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and the TV star and family doctor Phil Hammond, who helped present the awards, told Karen Regester how handwashing with soap can save millions of lives by cutting the numbers of child infected with diarrhoea caused by faecal contamination.'
