What is the universe built on? The question reveals if we think the universal substance is without form or void or has an absoluteness, an identity. Physics has fluctuated between the idea of forces and a particulate substrate for eons. In this essay we consider the possibility that the fundamental structure of reality is a value, similar to the inch or degree. What is more interesting the fundamental structure of reality is thought to be consistent with the idea of a unit of value like a dollar or guinea. It is likened to a unit of faith that builds the church, which is an uncomfortable conclusion for many but that is the problem with logic, it leads to where its premise directs.
