How To Live According To The Golden Rule

The Golden Rule is a universal moral dictum or injunction that asks us to only do what we would want others to do to us. Kant saw it as a guide to good behaviour based on assuming our actions would be universalized and our example would be a model for all other persons. This idea was weakened by comments that sociopaths were not concerned with modelling good behaviour. But perhaps the analysis done did not understand the true scope of the Rule. In this essay we look at The Golden Rule as an expression of a fundamental social truth. No one wants to be forced to bear the burden belonging to another. No one wants to bear the guilt of another, not even sociopaths. It takes a God to do this.
