The larger the population the more difficult it is to reduce the total amount of resources consumed per unit of time. So, why do so many nations that have a stable or declining birth rate promote immigration and green energy policies at the same time? Most nations believe the more people, the more prosperous the nation will be. The fear is that a decline in population will mean lowered standards of living. This essay answers the question, can a jurisdiction reduce carbon emissions by permitting a decline in population and still be prosperous? The issue is not can we reduce energy use, the question comes down to can we remain prosperous without having a perpetual increase in population levels? Experts think we need to reduce population levels but then assume this means a severe economic downturn. Experts then suggest we add to our population and compromise our energy use targets. Our green energy policies are not compatible with our economic policies. This essay demonstrates how prosperity is possible given a declining population.
