Lately there have been calls to defund the police. These calls were unreasonable, or so everyone thought. In this discussion the alternative to draconian policing is considered. Not in terms of criminals but from the perspective of citizens who may just be in opposition with government mandates. In light of the unreasoned and unparalleled (for Canada at least) demonization of citizens by the authorities, it is obvious that as much as we prefer to support the police, reforms have to be made. We cannot risk allowing another absolutist shift towards establishing a police state be made, whether in Canada or elsewhere
