1 Samuel 30:1-2 - David and his men reached Ziklag on the third day. Now the Amalekites had raided the Negev and Ziklag. They had attacked Ziklag and burned it, and had taken captive the women and everyone else in it, both young and old. They killed none of them, but carried them off as they went on their way.\n\n1 Samuel 30:3-5 \u2013 When David and his men reached Ziklag, they found it destroyed by fire and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive. So David and his men wept aloud until they had no strength left to weep. David\u2019s two wives had been captured \u2013 Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail, the widow of Nabal of Carmel.\n\n1 Samuel 30:6 \u2013 David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters.\n\n1 Samuel 30:6 \u2013 KJV \u2013 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people were grieved, every man for his sons and daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.\n\nPsalm 20:7 \u2013 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.\n\nSERMON POINT #1 \u2013 DAVID REMEMBERED HIS PAST\n\n1 Samuel 17:46-48 \u2013 Today the Lord will conquer you, and I will kill you and cut off your head. And then I will give the dead bodies of your men to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. And everyone assembled here will know that the Lord rescues his people, but now with sword and spear. This is the Lord\u2019s battle, and he will give you to us!\u201d As Goliath moved closer to attack, David quickly ran out to meet him.\n\nPsalm 27:1 \u2013 The Lord is my light and my salvation \u2013 whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life \u2013 of whom shall I be afraid?\n\nSERMON POINT #2 \u2013 DAVID HAD FAITH\n\nPsalm 62:5-8 \u2013 Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.\n\nSERMON POINT #3 \u2013 DAVID SOUGHT COUNSEL\n\n1 Samuel 30:7-8 - Then David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelek, \u201cBring me the ephod.\u201d Abiathar brought it to him, and David inquired of the Lord, \u201cShall I pursue this raiding party? Will I overtake them?\u201d \u201cPursue them,\u201d he answered. \u201cYou will certainly overtake them and succeed in the rescue.\u201d
