PSALM 42\n1 As the deer pants for streams of water,\n so my soul pants for you, my God.\n2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.\n When can I go and meet with God?\n3 My tears have been my food\n day and night,\nwhile people say to me all day long,\n \u201cWhere is your God?\u201d\n4 These things I remember\n as I pour out my soul:\nhow I used to go to the house of God\n under the protection of the Mighty One[d]\nwith shouts of joy and praise\n among the festive throng.\n5 Why, my soul, are you downcast?\n Why so disturbed within me?\nPut your hope in God,\n for I will yet praise him,\n my Savior and my God.\n6 My soul is downcast within me;\n therefore I will remember you\nfrom the land of the Jordan,\n the heights of Hermon\u2014from Mount Mizar.\n7 Deep calls to deep\n in the roar of your waterfalls;\nall your waves and breakers\n have swept over me.\n8 By day the Lord directs his love,\n at night his song is with me\u2014\n a prayer to the God of my life.\n9 I say to God my Rock,\n \u201cWhy have you forgotten me?\nWhy must I go about mourning,\n oppressed by the enemy?\u201d\n10 My bones suffer mortal agony\n as my foes taunt me,\nsaying to me all day long,\n \u201cWhere is your God?\u201d\n11 Why, my soul, are you downcast?\n Why so disturbed within me?\nPut your hope in God,\n for I will yet praise him,\n my Savior and my God.\n\nPSALM 43:4\n4 Then I will go to the altar of God,\n to God, my joy and my delight.\n I will praise you with the lyre,\n O God, my God\n\nISAIAH 61:1-3\n1 The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,\n because the Lord has anointed me\n to proclaim good news to the poor.\nHe has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,\n to proclaim freedom for the captives\n and release from darkness for the prisoners,[a]\n2 to proclaim the year of the Lord\u2019s favor\n and the day of vengeance of our God,\nto comfort all who mourn,\n3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion\u2014\nto bestow on them a crown of beauty\n instead of ashes,\nthe oil of joy\n instead of mourning,\nand a garment of praise\n instead of a spirit of despair.\nThey will be called oaks of righteousness,\n a planting of the Lord\n for the display of his splendor
