1 Kings 17:1 \u2013 Now Elijah the Tishbite, from Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, \u201cAs the Lord, the God of Israel lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word.\u201d\n\n1 Kings 18:21 \u2013 Elijah went before the people and said, \u201cHow long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.\u201d But the people said nothing.\n\n1 Kings 18:29 says \u2013 \u201cBut there was no response, no one answered, no one paid attention.\u201d\n\n1 Kings 18:36-39 \u2013 At the time of sacrifice, the prophet Elijah stepped forward and prayed, \u201cLord, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command. Answer me, Lord, answer me, so that these people will know that you, Lord, are God and that you are turning their hearts back again.\u201d Then the fire of the Lord fell and burned up the sacrifice, the word, the stones, and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench. When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, \u201cThe Lord \u2013 he is God! The Lord \u2013 he is God!\u201d\n\n1 Kings 19:3-4 \u2013 Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, while he himself went a day\u2019s journey into the wilderness. He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. \u201cI have had enough, Lord,\u201d he said. \u201cTake my life; I am no better than my ancestors.\u201d\n\nSERMON POINT #1 \u2013 GOD PURSUES US\n\n1 Kings 19:9 \u2013 There he went into a cave and spent the night. And the word of the Lord came to him: \u201cWhat are you doing here, Elijah?\u201d\n\n1 Kings 19:10 \u2013 He replied, \u201cI have been very zealous for the Lord God almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.\u201d\n\n1 Kings 19:11-13 \u2013 The Lord said, \u201cGo out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.\u201d Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountain apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was no in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, \u201cWhat are you doing here, Elijah?\u201d\n\nSERMON POINT #2 \u2013 GOD IS REVEALED AS INTIMATE PRESENCE\n\n1 Kings 19:15 \u2013 The Lord said to him, \u201cGo back the way you came, and go to the Desert of Damascus.\u201d\n\nRomans 11:29 NLT \u2013 For God\u2019s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn.
