In this episode you\u2019ll learn about this resilient young woman\u2019s journey, including: \n\n\U0001f535 Palloma\u2019s family\u2019s journey from Brazil, and how they came to settle in Framingham, Massachusetts. \n\U0001f534 How her family had to move about nine times, beginning with a trusted family friend neglecting Palloma\u2019s health as her parents worked. \n\u26ab\ufe0f The harrowing experience of having the family\u2019s car broken into - and the police officer that told them to \u201cgo back to where you came from\u201d, which set off a lifelong distrust of authorities. \n\U0001f535 Being Brazilian in the US, and how Palloma came to hide it as she went through middle school and high school - and how she came to embrace her heritage proudly. \n\U0001f534 Her #MeToo moments - being sexually harassed at almost every job she\u2019s had, almost raped once, and her anger at our current president whose behavior has been just like that her harassers. \n\u26ab\ufe0f How the #DACA announcement changed her life: she goes into all the things she\u2019s been able to accomplish, but also analyzes the shortcomings, including financial aid. \n\U0001f535 The reaction to the the president\u2019s cancellation of DACA - her emotions throughout the day after, and how it affected her family. \n\U0001f534 \u201cThe money he wants for the wall, he sees us as objects, holding us as hostages\u201d \u2014 and how she sees negotiations working. \n\u26ab\ufe0f How she\u2019s been able to find community with her professors at Framingham, and the difference they\u2019ve made in her academics, and for her dreams to become a change agent in the immigration movement. \n\U0001f535 \u201cStay hopeful\u201d is Palloma\u2019s message for her community, and that people\u2019s dreams matter, even if the good in things can\u2019t be seen immediately. \n\nThank you Palloma!
