Phumzile Mlambo - Ngcuka - Building a Better World Post-COVID with Women at the Centre

This event was part of our Irish Aid Development Matters Lecture Series.\n\nIn her address to the IIEA, Ms Mlambo-Ngcuka discusses how governments around the world can build better, fairer societies post- COVID-19 with women and girls at the centre. The Executive Director issues a strong call for women\u2019s leadership as countries begin to emerge from lockdown and provides recommendations for a socio-economic recovery that is gender-focused. Ms Mlambo-Ngcuka also looks at the links between the Sustainable Development Goals and gender equality in the context of the Beijing+25 conference on women.\n\nAbout the Speaker:\n\nMs Mlambo-Ngcuka is a United Nations Under-Secretary-General and is the Executive Director of UN Women. Previously, she served as Deputy President of South Africa, overseeing programmes to combat poverty and bring the advantages of a growing economy to the poor, with a particular focus on women. She was a Member of Parliament from 1994 to 1996 as part of South Africa\u2019s first democratic government. She is the founder of the Umlambo Foundation, which supports leadership and education.
