IBMs new Maximo RFID solution combines asset tracking using radio frequency identification RFID with Maximo to 1 recognize RFID tagged assets in a selected location and determine whether they are in the correct place and 2 provide location updates in Maximo for tagged assets as they move from one location to another. Asset recognition uses a RFID handheld and a Maximo Mobile application. Asset location update uses IBM's RFID middleware communicating with Maximo. With accurate asset location in Maximo clients spend less time searching for assets that are not where they should be and do not need to have additional assets on hand to act as safety stock to replace assets that can not be found.
