Helouise “Halo” Matzelle was born in the city of Delft, (The Netherlands), on October 19, 1964. Three months after her birth, Helo’s parents decided to emigrate from the Netherlands to the United States. Boarding a ship, they traveled across the Atlantic Ocean to Chicago with only two hundred dollars to their name. Chicago, Illinois where her parents experienced discrimination of their mixed marriage, which was illegal in eighteen states at the time.

Later in life Helo became a busy and faithful wife, devoted mom, caring daughter, loving sister, and dedicated friend. She cherished life and took none of it for granted. Or so she thought. Life was busyness, blessings and excitement. She had a beautiful home, a great husband, incredible children, and a cute dog named Grace.

Then one day, everything changed and shock took hold. Helo was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor sitting over the main artery in her brain. On the day of diagnosis she sat quietly with her husband, Rich. He took her hands and softly said “time to pray.” Her prayer was simple. “God, please make something beautiful out of this.” Little did she know what God alone was capable of, but over time she discovered how vast His affections are.

"Machines beeping, the blur of medical staff running, a crash cart whizzing into an ICU room, was there any hope?
A young woman lay, packed in ice, as doctors attempted to somehow stop the swelling in her brain that threatened to take her life… and her family waited. "

Join Helo as she tells us how God can replace fear with courage and discouragement with determination, if you let Him.

It is my profound pleasure to introduce you to my very special guest Helo Matzelle!!
