Jesus was His birth name, His legal name, the name Joseph was commanded to give Him.  The name Jesus was told to give Him was tied to His assignment of saving people from their sins.

Notice the scripture reads, “and they shall call his name Immanuel, which translates to God with us”.  Immanuel was is what we would refer to as a “nickname”.

Nicknames tend to be tied to one’s character, who they are at the core of their being. And in some instances, only those closest to a person refers to them by their nickname and then there are other who only know a person by their nickname.

Jesus’ nickname, is one that certainly gives clarity to the core of His being, the essence of HIs being, God with us. Jesus’ nickname is also one that only those closest to him refer to by their nickname.
