The Reading Of The Will

Published: Feb. 8, 2022, noon

Proverbs 13:22 “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, but the sinner's wealth is laid up for the righteous”. And when God manifested himself in flesh and walked the earth as Jesus The Christ when he laid down his life, he left an inheritance for us.

As I read some of the most peculiar wills ever written, one thing was consistent: they all had conditions, as to how the will was to be followed in order to receive the inheritance.  Conditions usually come in a will when one wants to preserve a legacy or to assure who or what they loved most is cared for and provided for.

In John 14:15 - 21 Jesus read his own will before his death as it reads: “If you love me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[c] in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. 21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”

Notice the will of Jesus begins with condition, if you love me keep my commands. The inheritance JESUS  left is for all those who love him. And what he left us was something only He could leave, the Holy Spirit.  In John 16:13 we read the power and character of the Holy Spirit that makes it such a priceless inheritance

Scripture tells us the Holy Spirit will not speak on his own authority but whatever He hears he will speak.

I don’t care how advanced Iphone or Samsung get with their technology. The one thing they cannot provide is a direct connection to God, Jesus left us that when he promised to send to those who love him the holy spirit.

You’ve read the will, you know what you have inherited, so when times seem challenges, when stumbling blocks are coming one after another, when folks are lying on you, when are your plans seem to crumble, when relationships go south, and your children go wild, remember in the will you were left a helper, call on him.
