New New Year, Is Approaching

Published: Dec. 16, 2020, 11 a.m.

“No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse.  Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”  Matthew 9:16-17

We can all agree that this year has come with many challenges, turmoil, ugliness and death.  But as we are just weeks from a new year what kind of preparation have you made to embrace the new?

Let’s look at 2020 as an old wineskin, of which we will not pour new wine into, for we do not want our wineskins to burst.  Many are waiting to see what the government is going to do, how the economy will look, what the CDC will be predicting for the upcoming days. As relevant is that is  to our country and the world in which we live.

As believers we are citizens of the Kingdom of God, so I ask you again what preparations have you made?  The preparation I am asking you about is concerning your position in the Kingdom of God.  What are you prepared to do differently, what do you want to do more of, what do you want to do less of, where do you stand regarding God's great commission which is to spread the Gospel.

I want to leave you with another parable

The Parable of the Ten Virgins“Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps[a] and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. 3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. 5 As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept.  But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’  Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps.  And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’  But the wise answered, saying, ‘Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’ An d while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’  Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.

Prepare yourselves so that when knock on the door of the Kingdom God will respond welcoming you in.
