Juneteenth: A God Thing

Published: June 18, 2023, 3 a.m.

I want to make a public announcement, Juneteenth is not a black holiday, it is a holiday to celebrate the exaltation of humanity, and the victories of freedom.

If we limit the celebration of Juneteenth to just celebrating the freeing of black people from slavery, then only blacks will deem it necessary to acknowledge and or celebrate.

But when we as a nation embrace the exaltation of humanity and begin to calculate the victories realized and utilized by the entire human race through the freeing of slaves, then humbleness, unity, gratefulness, and mutual respect become a possible reality.

Hebrews 3:13  “But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.

Let’s put aside color and race for a moment, whether you are black, white, or brown let’s recognize the fact that because black people in these United States were set free the world now has pacemakers, technology to execute blood transfusions, and we have bared witness to successful neurosurgery on conjoined twins, and beyond… not to mention because blacks were freed, we have seen repeated successful open heart surgeries.

Because a free black man became interested in researching the preservation of blood, we have blood banks and have been able to save millions of lives repeatedly year after year.

It was a free black man who developed what he called the safety hood, which we now refer to as a gas mask, after noticing how many firefighters were being killed by smoke inhalation.

It is because of a free black man that families can keep their grass green while allowing kids to jump around and play in the water in their own yards.  What are you talking about pastor, it was a free black man that created the lawn sprinkler system.

And let’s not forget it was the research of a free black woman that led to the development of touch-tone phones, and the fiber optic cables that make phone calls crystal clear.

I could go on and on about the contributions of blacks.  I want every human being with blood flowing through their veins and a pumping heart to understand the contributions made by black people because they were free to be educated, free to dream, free to express themselves, and their contributions did not just impact and make lives better for black people, but better for all humanity.

So again I say the celebration of Juneteenth is not just a black holiday.
