Is There A Right or Wrong Way to Pray

 Let me say this right off the bat, there is no compilation of expressed words that are deemed holier or more fervent than others. I have seen people ridiculed and criticized for their prayer, as some expect to feel something when someone prays.  Which is why you have a lot of people who don’t like to pray publicly and also why you have a lot of people who deem it necessary to make a public prayer a dramatic presentation

In Matthew 6:5&7 Jesus address this very topic as he says “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 7 “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words.

Basically Jesus is letting us know, there is no reason to put on a production when you pray, and if you do, then you have prayed for the entertainment of the people, so look for your blessing to come from the ones you entertained.  Verse 7 continues address all the deep words, that may inspire or cause emotions to flair in people, but are ignored by God

Think about it there are some poems and even some songs that if read or sung at the appropriate time can invoke emotions, however, they are not rooted in a relationship which is inspired by communication with Him.

The righteousness of our prayer rests on the condition of our hearts, our souls and our intention.  Depending on these three things our prayers can be hindered

Unconfessed sin is likely the most common hindrance to prayer  Psalm 66:18 If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened;

Lack of faith is a true hindrance to prayer in Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

Selfishness and Wrong Intentions James 4:3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions or wrong motives.  In other words you come to God so fixed on your greed, your own desires, with a checklist treating Him like a genie instead of God almighty.

Un-forgiveness  “For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”

Un-submitted to the will of God - (John 15:7). The branch depends on the vine and lives in one accord with it. In return, the vine provides it with everything it needs, and the result is great fruitfulness.
