Born Borge Rosenbaum, but known professionally as Victor Borge, "To people who take music seriously, I'm a musician. To people who don't take music seriously, I'm a comedian. To people who don't take anything seriously, I'm a clown." Victor Borge was a truly accomplished musician.. trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. He toured Europe in the 1930's and made fun of the Nazi's... they had him on the hit list when they invaded Denmark, but Borge was in Sweden playing a concert at the time and he and his wife escaped to Finland where the caught the last neutral ship to leave Northern Europe... The USS American Legion. He spoke no English when arrived in the US, but quickly learned enough to make jokes understood by going to movie theaters and studying English! His radio career began on the Rudy Vallee show.. then Bing Crosby's Kraft Music Hall.. had his own show... guest starred on Fibber McGee and Molly, Jubilee, Mail Call, and AFRS Command Performance broadcasts. He was a visual comedian so routines worked best on TV or in live performances... but he was a beloved performer and continued to tour and perform throughout his life. He was making up to 60 appearances a year at the age of 90. Died Dec. 23, 2000 in Greenwich, CT. at the age of 91. This file will live in the "Comedy" Playlist
