This track features a Jan 9, 1949 rebroadcast of the radio adaptation of the 1939 American Western film directed by John Ford and starring Claire Trevor and John Wayne in his first hit movie. Generally the film follows a group of 9 strangers riding on a stagecoach through dangerous Apache territory. The film was based on a short story written in 1937 by Ernest Haycox. In 1995 the film was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry of the United States Library of Congress. John Wayne reprises his role of the "Ringo Kid" and co-stars with Claire Trevor also reprising her role as Dallas Ward Bond (of TV's "Wagon Train") co-stars in this radio adaptation but he was not in the film. This radio adaptation 10 yrs after the film was released was popular with listening audiences. By 1949 John Wayne had become a very big movie star. Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, June Carter Cash, Waylon Jennings... basically the country music supergroup "The Highwayman" made up the cast.
