He did a lot of "Improvisation." He was extremely talented and was on WOR-AM for 22 years... most if not all of it, a midnight show! He had a huge audience. The film he is most famous for is "A Christmas Story" - remember Ralphie? He wanted a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas. That film has become a Christmas Classic.
