62: An Exploration of Curmudgeons Day

Published: Jan. 29, 2021, 4:07 p.m.

Curmudgeons Day, observed annually on January 29, is one of the sillier days that I’ve included on the Weird Holidays & Observances page. But what’s its story? Who started it and why? And what is a curmudgeon exactly?

In this episode, I explore the unlikely origins of Curmudgeons Day. (Can you believe it pays tribute to a comedian?!)

I also take a look at 12 popular curmudgeons from pop culture, and I share some newspaper articles I found about other days devoted to grouches as well as a band called Curmudgeon's Day.
