ER doctor speaks up about the overdose crisis and Ketamine treatment.

Published: Oct. 27, 2021, 1 p.m.

"During the first wave of the pandemic, we saw more overdose deaths than COVID deaths in Alberta."

Marshall works in the emergency room at Foot Hills Medical Center in Calgary, AB. He is also the Chief Scientific Officer for The Newly Institute.

The Newly uses Ketamine to treat people with PTSD and Substance Use Disorders.

"Ketamine can remove intrinsic psychological defenses, allowing a person to step back and see that we are not apart from the world around us. Rather, existence flows through us. And that can allow us to see our past traumas from the outside in."

Marshall suggests there is science behind spirituality.

"Drum circles allow humans to connect with one another without needing the words to do so. This further removes the barriers we construct between ourselves and the world around us."

Perhaps the opposite of addiction truly is connection. Perhaps many of us don't even know what connection means.

What do you think?

Tune in this week and listen to Marshall #takeofftheblinders around psychedelics. we'll talk about how trauma physically changes the brain, and how Ketamine can help change it back.
