“Hanging out behind Home Depot, even the meth heads were scared of me.”
Matt started drinking at 16 years old, started using hard drugs at 18.
“For a long time, how I felt internally was determined by what others had externally.”
Matt was never on the street, but he bounced around sober houses, lived in cars and in friend's porches for over 18 months.
“I just got kicked out of sober living for relapsing on computer duster, I put hands on my girlfriend and that’s when I knew I needed to try treatment one more time.”
Today Matt shows up for life. He has all the gifts the recovery brings and he helps others tell their story with his growing Instagram account @aliferecovered. With 16.6k followers, he's really making noise for all paths to recovery.
“Alcoholics Anonymous is the only program that worked for me, I know it's not the only way. But because if it, I have a home, a wife that loves me, a baby on the way, and a love for sobriety.”
You won't want to miss this one friends as we step out of the darkness, and into the light this week right here, on Hard Knox Talks.
Buckle up!
