Given the increase in daily positivity and infection rates, the Ministry of Health expects to see increases in the number of school aged children diagnosed with the virus. As such, it is crucial that students who are unwell not attend school. They should be assessed and tested for COVID-19 if deemed necessary by the health practitioner.

We have learnt that symptoms of COVID-19 vary. Students may present with typical flu like symptoms such as cough, runny nose, fever. Others may have gastroenteritis-like symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea. Some students may complain of headache while others may just be fatigued.

If your child complains of feeling unwell, do the right thing and get them assessed. In addition, if one member of the household is experiencing symptoms and is awaiting results for COVID-19, keep other children home until the results are received. It is also important for children to be tested if one household member tests positive, as they are contacts of a positive case.
