Hello there, come in, come in. \xa0Yes, it is dark isn't it? \xa0The nights draw in ever so quickly these days. \xa0There's a real bite in the air now - you'd almost think it was Winter! \xa0Here, let me take that coat from you. \xa0You must be freezing. \xa0Blowing quite a gale out there, by the sounds of it. \xa0You know,\xa0I remember a night like this oh.., many years back, when I was at school with old Monty. \xa0Hah! \xa0Now, there was a character and no mistake. \xa0Famed for his fireside stories. \xa0There's one he told me that fair set the hairs on the back of my neck a-rising (back when I was a wee lad, you understand.) \xa0He wrote it down later and, do you know, I believe I have a copy of it somewhere. \xa0Let me see...

\n
\nCome, fetch yourself a warm drink, if you haven't one already. \xa0Take your ease. \xa0There's warm cocoa in the pan, and I'm sure I can find something a little stronger to slip in, to help warm your bones. \xa0Lovely. \xa0Ah, here's the tale! \xa0It's called 'Lost Hearts.' \xa0Got yer drink? \xa0Marvellous.\nOh dear, the cat's jumped up on me now, and she does so hate to be disturbed.\nBe a good fellow will you, and\xa0turn the lights down. \xa0The fire's picking up, and I do like to see it in it's glory.\n
\nAhhh, there's nothing more companiable...\nNow then,\xa0'It was, as far as I can ascertain, in September of the year 1811...'\n\nLost Hearts' was written by Montague Rhodes James. \xa0It is performed here by Dion Winton-Polak, from the\xa0Scrolls\xa0podcast.\nThis reading incorporates the following sounds, downloaded from\xa0freesound:\n
