\nGary interviews Red Wemette about Chicago attorney Bob Cooley and Red’s time as a contract agent for the FBI during the late 1970s and 1980s. Red Wemette owned a porn store making him a target for extortion from the Chicago Outfit. The FBI installed a hidden camera and microphone in Red’s office and taped many incriminating conversations between Red and Frank “The German” Schwiehs about outfit business. During this time, he heard about a Chicago attorney named Bob Cooley who was famous for putting in the fix for clients in Cook County courts. Red tells about his own connections into the Cook County court system and how he bribed judges himself.\xa0 Bob Cooley was probably the most famous “fixer” because he was able to fix any case through bribery up to and including murder cases for mob hitmen. Bob Cooley owed a lot of money to gamblers when he offered his services to the Chicago area U.S. attorney and FBI. They started an ambitious multi-year project they called Gambet, which stands for “Gambling Attorney.” Cooley exposed many judges, cops, and other employees in the criminal justice system as corrupt. He even revealed how he had paid a judge $10,000 to obtain a not-guilty verdict in a slam dunk murder case against Outfit hitman Harry Aleman.
