The Anti-Christ

Speaker: Vince Klassen We are a society obsessed with evil. And not just evil, but evil personified. The idea of a power that is so demented and remorseless that it knows no depths and no bounds. A force that can influence us to do something we know is wrong, or better yet, something we can blame for those thoughts or actions we'd rather not take responsibility for. Unfortunately, the book called Revelation in the Bible has been the foundation for much of these ideas. And our new reading doesn’t really support this idea of evil. So, what does that leave us with? A model of Christianity that has no teeth? Perhaps, this non-literal reading of Revelation can reveal a deeper spiritual truth that is playing out all around us. Did you know? Did you know that the word Anti-Christ is never used in Revelation? For many, they see Revelation speaking of the great final character that will bring the world to its knees – the anti-christ. The ultimate evil. In the letter written by another John to his community, he speaks of anti-christs, plural. Meaning that anyone against Christ or what Christ stood for, is an anti-christ. But that word is never used in Revelation. I wonder if our zeal for our models of God, our theologies, has caused us to read something into Revelation that is not even there?
